The world has recorded more than 600-thousand cases of the virus on each of the last four days.
The US continues to see the world’s largest surge in cases, with more than 100,000 on each of the last 19 days, and just short of 200,000 recorded in a single day on Friday.
Case numbers in Europe remain high amid the second wave of infections, however some countries are considering ending their second national lockdowns.
Attention is now turning to vaccines, with officials in the United States saying they could begin immunising people with the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine within three weeks.
